Hi! This is my 11th year teaching and my fifth year at Cumberland Academy Middle School. I grew up in Tyler and graduated from John Tyler where I was on their drill team, the Brigadettes, and served as an officer for my junior and senior year. After graduation, I moved to Lubbock, TX and attended Texas Tech University where I graduated with my Bachelor's of Arts in Dance. I taught at Lubbock High School for six years and was the director of their award winning pom squad. I graduated in 2013 with my Masters in Educational Administration from Lamar University.
I am married with have three wonderful boys and we just added a new addition to the family: a sweet baby girl! My oldest attends CAES and my middle son is in Pre-K at Andy Woods. My other two are in day care. We have one cat that is very spoiled named Annie. My favorite color is lime green and I wear it all the time!
I look forward to working with your daughter/son in class. Dance teaches so many important life skills. Some of these are responsibility, time management, and cooperative learning. All of these skills are important outside of the classroom.
My class is not easy. Students are expected to be on time and be dressed out, as is required. I take grades daily and also test students on vocabulary and skills. I believe that it is very important for students to know the meaning of the vocabulary we are working on, not just being able to perform it. All sixth grade students study different dance genres throughout the year, while seventh and eighth grades work on jazz.
I have conference during second period every day. Please do not hesitate to email me to ask questions or set up an appointment during that time. My email address is email@example.com.
