I am Mrs. McKee, 6th grade Math teacher. 2017-18 will be my 3rd year at Cumberland Academy Middle School. I have been teaching for over 20 years and Cumberland is my 3rd district. I've taught many different grade levels and Math courses, from 2nd grade through high school Math courses. I've taught in regular public schools and alternative educational settings. I've also taught adult GED Classes. My degrees are from Stephen F. Austin and Sam Houston State Universities. I have a Master's degree in Educational Leadership. I am certified to teach EC-8, Math 4-8, Technology Applications K-12 and Special Ed K-12, but Math is my favorite. I knew in the 3rd grade that I wanted to teach Math. We use technology, iPads, a lot in my classes.
I have been married to my sweetheart for many years and we have 2 adult children with families of their own. My faith and family are the best parts of my life, and I get to be Nanna to 8 precious children. Some of them live in Tyler and some in Oklahoma. I've lived in Texas most of my life, but have only been in Tyler for 2 years.
I have really high expectations for my students and believe they will work hard. Everybody can learn Math and we know that making mistakes is part of the learning process. I recently completed a course from Stanford University and learned that when we make mistakes, our brains grow. We learn more when we discuss our thinking, so my students will be talking about Math a lot.
I love Cumberland Academy! We have the opportunity to do amazing things here. Get ready, here we grow!
